The Ves-el, a Wish List project: Zaha Hadid working with Gareth Neal

Initiated by the American Hardwood Export Council and Benchmark Furniture, The Wish List brings together a architects and designers for a unique collaborative project. Ten emerging designers use American hardwood to create an object for an established figure in the architecture and design industry.

Zaha Hadid's wish was for a piece of tableware.

The designer Gareth Neal worked with Hadid to create two piece of tableware: The Ves-el.

Gareth was invited to her studio to work with the modelling software used by Hadid's office, from this came the idea of extruding the form along one of its axis with an opening at one end.

Each piece explores the relationship between hand-crafted and mechanical processes of design and fabrication.

All Wish List projects will be on display at the Victoria & Albert Museum until 5 October.
