Dongdaemun Design Plaza hosts 2016 Seoul Fashion Week and celebrates more than 17 million visitors since opening

Host of the 2016 Seoul Fashion Week, Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) has welcomed over 17 million visitors to its exhibitions and events since its opening two years ago. DDP’s design revolves around the ancient city wall and the historical artefacts discovered during its construction. It establishes an engaging cultural centre and a much-needed new public park in the middle of the city with a direct connection to its ancient past. The first public project in Korea to employ 3D digital construction management and administration, DDP continues to innovate with a wide variety of exhibitions and events, creating new synergies with the neighboring communities and businesses.

Listed by the New York Times as one of its ‘Places to Go’, DDP’s past events include: ‘Design 36.5’ that explored social diversity and discrimination through the many design innovations and biomedical solutions that have helped overcome human limitations; ‘Kansong Mun Hwa’, an exhibition of exquisite landscape paintings from the Kansong Art Museum’s prized collection of traditional Korean art; the Culture Chanel ‘Sense of Places’ exhibition; and hosting the Chanel 2015/16 Cruise Collection show.

DDP’s current exhibitions include the new Jean Paul Gaultier mid-retrospective celebrating the inventiveness of Gaultier’s work. This acclaimed exhibition has been organized by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and brought to DDP for the Hyundai Card Culture Project.
