UltraStellar collection at David Gill Gallery, London

The UltraStellar collection continues the journey that Zaha Hadid and Patrik Schumacher began with David Gill Gallery in 2007. Encompassing new pieces and several that extend existing collections and ideas, the main body of the collection includes pieces in walnut, silver, glass and leather – which sit alongside the clear acrylic of the 2012 Liquid Glacial designs.

This new collection reveals Hadid and Schumacher’s on-going explorations of fluid lines – expressing complex interactions between surface and structure, solid and void, light and shadow.

Several pieces have been fashioned  in walnut, walnut and leather and walnut and acrylic, revealing a true affinity for this natural finish with the organic morphology of each design. The pristine, smooth surfaces of walnut and leather upholstery seamlessly flow into structure. Arms and legs, tops and bases merge in a continuous dialogue, creating furniture that seemingly adapts to the human form; embracing, organic and invitingly tactile.

Three new pieces extend the popular Liquid Glacial series: two consoles and a bowl made in the collection’s signature material, milled and hand-­polished acrylic, and also in sterling silver; capturing surface complexity and reflection within a wonderful fluid dynamic.

The sweeping Lisse centrepiece chandelier, comprised of individual crystal light sources embedded within an intricately filigreed brushed aluminium canopy, together with the Luna coffee table in clear acrylic, completes the collection.
