KAPSARC nominated for Building of the Year

The King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Centre (KAPSARC) in Riyadh has been nominated for ArchDaily’s ‘Building of the Year’ awards.

ArchDaily is the world’s most popular architecture website and, for the 9th consecutive year, has asked their readers to act as a jury for the awards.

With more than 70,000 nominations in the first week of the awards, ArchDaily’s readers have narrowed the field from over 3,000 to just 75 projects around the world: five finalists in 15 different categories that cover the wide variety of architectural production, from private houses to crucial public buildings, from offices to cultural architecture.

KAPSARC is a finalist in the ‘Building of the Year’ awards’ Educational Architecture category.

KAPSARC is a non-profit institution for independent research into policies that contribute to the most effective use of energy to provide social wellbeing across the globe. KAPSARC develops policies and economic frameworks that reduce the environmental impact and overall costs of energy supply and enable practical technology-based solutions to use energy more efficiently.

The design of KAPSARC’s campus has solid technical and environmental considerations at its heart and draws the five departments of the campus together as a unified whole. Awarded LEED Platinum certification by the US Green Building Council, the design responds to the environmental conditions of the Riyadh Plateau to minimise energy and resource consumption.

ArchDaily’s readers can now vote for best finalist in each category until the 7th February.
