Four ZHA projects shortlisted for World Architecture Community Awards

The World Architecture Community Awards has shortlisted four projects by Zaha Hadid Architects:

- Morpheus Hotel at City of Dreams, Macau
- 520 West 28th in New York, USA
- Nanjing International Youth Cultural Centre in China
- Generali Tower in Milan, Italy

Now in is 30th cycle, the World Architecture Community Awards recognise remarkable projects that inspire contemporary architectural discourse. ZHA’s four projects mark a record for the awards programme from a single design studio.

520 West 28th in New York has previously received Engineering News-Record (ENR) New York’s ‘Best Project’ 2018 Award in the Residential & Hospitality category, and a Diamond Award at the 51st annual Engineering Excellence Awards by the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York). 520 West 28th was also named ‘Project of the Year’ by the Society of American Registered Architects’ New York Council and was voted ‘Building of the Year’ by 6sqft readers.

Earlier this year, TIME Magazine listed Morpheus Hotel as one of the World’s Greatest Places based on key factors, including quality, originality, innovation, sustainability and influence. Morpheus Hotel, also received three ‘Awards for Excellence’ from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), while Popular Science Magazine included the hotel in their list ‘Best of What New 2018’.

Experiencing an exciting renaissance over recent years with enlightened patrons of the city’s art, fashion and architecture, Milan has received the Wallpaper* Design Award for Best City, listing the new Generali Tower’s contribution to an evolving cityscape that combines Milan’s traditional grandeur with a contemporary architectural language. The Generali Tower was also honoured by the Emporis Skyscraper Awards, considered the world's most renowned prize for high-rise architecture. Placing second, Generali Tower was praised by the jury for the highest standards of energy efficiency receiving LEED Platinum certification from the US Green Building Council.

The Nanjing International Youth Cultural Centre has also received four ‘Awards for Excellence’ 2019 from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). Including the new Jumeirah Nanjing  Hotel, the centre harnessed the energy of the 2014 Youth Olympic Games to create a project with a lasting legacy that has enhanced and also regenerated its setting - acting as both an anchor and a catalyst for future investment in Nanjing’s Hexi New Town.

Members of the World Architecture Community rate shortlisted projects from 1 through 10, with voting open until 21 February.
