Adidas Superstar Supershell in collaboration with Pharrell on exhibit

The Adidas Superstar Supershell by Zaha Hadid Design, in collaboration with Pharrell, will be displayed as part of the ‘Sneaker Collab’ exhibition at the Musée de design et d'arts appliqués contemporains (mudac), Switzerland until 26 January 2020.

‘Sneaker Collab’ at mudac together with Swisssneaks celebrates the cultural and sociological history of sport. The exhibition focuses on an iconic object that has spread far beyond the sporting world for which it was initially created - entering our daily lives and our urbanity: the sneaker.

The Adidas Superstar sneaker is one of the world’s most popular and recognisable fashion designs. For this 2015 collaboration with Adidas, Pharrell Williams curated the Supershell collection of contemporary reinterpretations.

Pharrell invited Zaha Hadid to reinvent the classic shell toe of the Adidas Superstar. The subtle design is defined by the original structure of the famous shell toe, extending the radial pattern of the original design by adding depth and bifurcation.

“I’m a huge fan of Zaha Hadid. I would venture to say that Zaha Hadid is one of the most talented architects of our time and of history in my opinion”, explains Pharrell. “I think that Zaha’s designs are just like her buildings, they augment reality forever. With the Supershell she created, using the iconic shell toe of the shoe, I feel like she used dimensions of what already exists, and cast shadows that weren’t necessarily there.”
