Forest Green Rovers Eco Park Stadium exhibited at the Design Museum in London

The Forest Green Rovers Eco Park Stadium is currently showcased at the Design Museum in London, as part of the ‘Football: Designing the Beautiful Game’ exhibition.

The exhibition, produced in partnership with the National Football Museum in Manchester, is the first major exhibition that explores the story behind football and unpicks how design has been used to push the game to new limits. Now opened until the 29 August 2022, the exhibitions offer a journey through more than 500 objects, films and interviews and provides a rare insight into the people and processes that have made football what it is today.

When completed, Eco Park Stadium will become the new home of Forest Green Rovers Football Club with important new facilities for its local community.

Forest Green Rovers have established a holistic vision for the site whilst adding new facilities for the town.

Embodying low carbon construction methods and operational processes, it will be the first all wood football stadium with almost every element made of sustainably sourced timber.

As a building material, laminated timber is highly durable, safe and will minimize the structure’s embodied carbon. The stadium’s roof is covered with a transparent membrane, which contributes to turf growth, minimises stark shadows for players and fans and reduces the volumetric impact of the stadium from distant views in the surrounding countryside.

With the team’s community and supporters at its core, fans will be exceptionally close to the pitch and the position of every seat has been calculated to provide excellent, unrestricted views of the entire field of play. The stadium’s continuous spectator bowl surrounding the pitch will maximise match day atmosphere.

The stadium’s design incorporates the club’s future growth. Initially for 5,000 spectators, increasing to 10,000 with the club’s success, expansion from phase 1 to phase 2 can be achieved without the costs of major construction works.

Forest Green Rovers’ new stadium aims to be carbon neutral or carbon negative, with the provision of on-site renewable energy generation - demonstrating sustainable architecture can be dynamic and beautiful.
