Blueprint Pavilion, Interbuild 95

  • Birmingham, United Kingdom
  • 19/11/1995 – 24/11/1995
  • Blueprint Magazine / Montgomery Exhibitions Ltd
  • Complete
  • 120m2

The continuous, fluid enclosure of the pavilion expressed the movement of visitors through the venue, while establishing a unifying context for the products on display. Conceived as a whole, the Möbius strip-shaped form functioned as a completely integrated, versatile exhibition space. Its structure comprised a chassis of steel ribs, which were enclosed within aluminium and MDF cladding and folded inwards to create two interlocking beams.

Inside this space, different finishes could flow uninterrupted from the floor to the walls. Lighting was either discreetly recessed into the structure or suspended from it. Every exhibitor, whether a manufacturer of bathroom fixtures, tables, carpets or steel was given a place inside the object, as the surface materials and displays shifted seamlessly from one part of its ‘world within’ to another.
