Commissioned to design a site-specific installation for Art Basel Miami Beach, the studio wanted to create a piece that would both complement and contradict the architecture of the landmark 1921 Moore Building in the city’s design district.

The former furniture showroom is characterised by its stacked mezzanine levels, arranged around a four-storey central atrium. Bringing the studio’s fluid, contemporary approach to this spatial organisation, the design explores the dynamic tension between the horizontal circulation and vertical columns. A series of oblique ‘stretches’ span the interior space like chewing gum, establishing an elastic connection between the different floors and a more organic reading of its geometry, materials and structural systems. The design and manufacture of the installation was made possible through advances in technology: the form was generated by complex geometry software and then sculpted by CNC milling.
