Created in conjunction with B&B Italia, MOON blends ergonomics and beauty to ‘liquefy’ conventional sofa typography – MOON redefines the notion of modular seating, making each element a module in its own right, to achieve great flexibility.
In 2007, ZHA worked in conjunction with B&B Italia to create the MOON system – a totally unique seating concept, drawing on our B&B’s unrivalled mastery of manufacturing technologies and our ongoing research into complex curvilinear geometries.
In MOON, ergonomics and beauty are blended in a continuous shape to ‘liquefy’ conventional sofa typology – producing a uniquely flexible and comfortable design.
MOON also redefines the concept of modular seating – making each element in the whole a module in its own right. MOON system can reconfigure in many ways – by rotating, interlocking and hiding individual pieces to generate alternative end seating solutions.
Complex double-curvature geometries allow the smooth transition between surrounding space and MOON pieces, making it possible to continually reset the equilibrium between solid and void, positive and negative, object and space.
The MOON system was first presented at the 2007 Salone Del Mobile, Milan.
