Total Fluidity: Urban Voids

  • Lisbon, Portugal
  • 2007 – 2007
  • Lisbon Architecture Triennale
  • Complete
  • 150m2

As part of the 2007 Lisbon Triennale themed Urban Voids, the exhibition Zaha Hadid: Total Fluidity at all Scales continued the morphological design language explored and developed by her studio for more than three decades.

The installation was conceived as an inverted landscape of complex curvilinear geometry, seamlessness and smooth transitions – integrating the diverse forms of Hadid’s unique brand of urbanism to connect disparate cityscapes. The title of the exhibition was in some ways a deliberate misnomer, as her quest for total fluidity was fragmented in order to be explored: the installation deconstructed the organic forms into a series of suspended vertical elements which, like time-lapse photography, captured moments in the transitions of the piece.
