Clara Martins Senior Associate Arch, ARB, RIBA, OASRN

Profile

Having previously worked for different practices in Lisbon and London, Clara joined ZHA in 2008. She has since coordinated large-scale projects from Concept Stage through to Construction Stage, including D’leedon residential development in Singapore, and Morpheus Hotel in Macau, China. Clara was project architect for ZHA’s first South American proposal, Casa Atlantica, a residential scheme located in Rio, Brazil. She was directly responsible for the planning application’s approval by the Rio de Janeiro City Hall.

Project Experience Overview

Clara currently works within ZHA’s Aviation Team. Redefining the development of airports worldwide, ZHA’s aviation projects include Beijing Daxing International Airport, Navi Mumbai International Airport and Western Sydney International Airport. Demonstrating ZHA’s commitment to the highest standards of design and benefiting millions of passengers annually, each airport is a global exemplar for passenger convenience, energy efficiency, environmental consideration and advanced technologies.

As project architect for Western Sydney Airport, a new airport in Sydney’s new western Parkland City region, Clara is responsible for leading the project and team.. Together with the original Harbour City on the coast and the River City around Paramatta, the Parkland City will become Sydney’s third urban hub, stimulating the city’s eastern expansion in the decades to come. Clara is now working as project associate of all ZHA’s aviation.

Previously, Clara was project architect of residential towers in Malaysia, where she was the client’s main point of contact and responsible for leading the project and team. ZHA’s proposal for this mixed-use tower complex presents an iconic, residential and commercial scheme in the city centre, comprising high-end residences, serviced apartments, a hotel, retail and parking. Working within a tight 112 m2 site with strict parameters, ZHA have developed a unique solution of blended tower geometries with an integrated retail podium, which fulfils the necessary area requirements, and creates a striking new presence in the city that punctures the skyline with a powerful, recognisable silhouette.
