John Simpson Senior Associate
John Simpson joined Zaha Hadid Architects in 2013 as a specialist in construction detailing and on-site quality control. Prior to ZHA, John was a director at both Ushida Findlay Architects and RHWL in London. During his time at RHWL, he was the director in charge of the conversion of the Grade I listed St Pancras Chambers into a five star hotel and high-end residential apartments – a project which demanded not only excellent technical skills but also quick thinking and flexibility, dealing with the delicate and complex alterations necessary to accommodate 21st century needs in 19th century fabric.
Project experience overview:
With a wealth of expertise leading complex fast-track design and construction projects in the UK, Scandinavia and the Middle East, John is currently the site-based design team manager for the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Acting as chief point of contact for our client and the contractors, he has overseen the successful tender and construction of the project since he started working at ZHA in 2013, with a particular emphasis on the quality of documentation and construction. Given the nature of his work and his specialist experience in construction processes spanning from office developments, hotels, historic buildings and conversions, John has been coaching ZHA teams through challenging construction details and communicating effectively with on-site contractors.
