Sebastian Andia Senior Associate M.Arch, CAMZA
Profile
Sebastian joined the office in 2012 to work on the Nanjing International Youth Cultural Centre, bringing with him experience from international practices in New York. Since then, he has developed a large portfolio of innovative design projects including large infrastructure projects, cultural projects, offices, mix-use midrise to high rise towers, residential villas, furniture design and product design. He has worked on a wide range of projects and competitions spanning Europe, the Middle East, Asia, North Africa and The Americas. From 2021, Sebastian joined the firm’s Front-End Design Research Team (Z Cluster) as a Senior Associate. The Z Cluster group is a large design team within the practice responsible for design exploration on new projects, with focus on expanding and developing ZHA’s creative approach and repertoire to the early conceptual stages of project development.
Education
Sebastian holds an M.Arch II from the AADRL. He studied at Universidad de Mendoza in Argentina where he received his architecture degree with honours. During his studies, he participated in exchanges with Universidad Anahuac in Mexico City and Washington DC at WACC (Virginia Tech), USA. He is a qualified architect, registered in Argentina.
Teaching
Since graduating, he has taught at both the AA and at the Bartlett School of Architecture. He is currently a course tutor in Communication & Media Studies, AA Experimental Programme at the AA School. Sebastian taught as a Unit Master in 2018 for the Architectural Association’s Visiting School in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Project Experience Overview
Currently, Sebastian is working as design director in projects that include residential villas in Costa Rica, a pavilion in Hainan and a private commission for furniture design.
Sebastian has extensive experience as project architect and design director such as: a financial centre in Wuhan, China, He is adept at ensuring good communication with the client, whilst still working on both design concept development and project delivery, working closely with consultants and suppliers to deliver accurate construction packages which reflect the original design intent.
He has also an extensive experience on product and furniture design working with cutting edge technologies and manufacture companies, including the Bow & Rise chairs for Nagami.
Sebastian works closely with project design teams during the development of concept ideas and undertakes detailed research into different typologies with an innovative design approach in support of other projects within the practice.
