Carlos Bausá Martínez Senior Associate, Head of Sustainability B.Arch, M.Arch, LEED AP ® Building Design + Construction, LEED ® Green Associate™, Qualified UK Non Domestic Energy Assessor, Construction Life Cycle Specialist

Carlos Bausa joined Zaha Hadid Architects in 2019 and co-founded its Environment & Sustainability Team, which he also leads. He previously worked four years at Foster and Partners within the Specialist Modelling Group as Environmental Design Analyst.”

His speciality in computational design and environmental simulation, combined with his expertise in sustainable architecture, helped ZHA to have an in-house sustainability team to inform design decisions from early stages, and coordinate with external consultancy firms to ensure all projects are delivered with the same degree of sustainability achievements. With their work on energy efficiency, international sustainability certification, carbon footprint and environmental analysis, architecture can be optimized to reduce its impact on climate change and global warming.

The Sustainability Team, lead by Carlos, is helping ZHA to target carbon reductions from building codes around the world and reach goals of international sustainability certifications like LEED and BREEAM. His work with the ZHA Sustainability Team has been publicly shown in exhibitions in China and London, in different venues.

With a background in Architecture and Computational Design, Carlos received his Bachelor’s with honours at the University of Alicante, Spain, and his Master’s in Advanced Architecture at the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC). His professional qualifications certify and validate his expertise on sustainability in construction, including having earned LEED AP ® Building Design + Construction, LEED ® Green Associate™, Qualified UK Non Domestic Energy Assessor and Construction Life Cycle Specialist.

Academic Work
Carlos collaborates as a tutor in well-known institutions, such as the Bartlett School of Architecture, IAAC Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, and the IED European Institute of Design at Barcelona. He has delivered workshops, lectured, and mentored students at the University of Westminster (London, UK), UDEM University of Monterrey (México), University of Edinburgh (UK), University of Liverpool (UK), LCI School of Design and Visual Arts (Barcelona, Spain)
