Paulo Flores Associate Director B.Arch, M.Arch, DGP-SEP(Mexico)
Paulo joined ZHA in 2007 and was made Senior Associate in 2016, in 2018 he was made Associate Director. He leads the firm’s Front-End Design Research Team, which inputs to a wide variety of project types, with focus on development of the firm’s creative approach to early concept design. He previously worked for practices in Italy and Mexico.
Education & Teaching
Paulo received his bachelor’s degree in architecture from the Ibero-American University in Mexico in 2003, including one year studying computational design with the University of Miami. He then gained his master’s degree in parametric and digital design from the Architectural Association in London in 2007. Variously since 2011, Paulo has lectured with the Architectural Association, with Texas Tech University in Austin, and with the North Industrial University and also the World Art Museum, both in Beijing. Since 2013 he has been an invited reviewer each year for the Architectural Association and for the Zaha Hadid Studio architecture courses in Yale and Vienna.
Paulo works on a wide range of projects and competitions for the practice, working closely with project design teams during the development of concept ideas and undertaking detailed research into different typologies and design techniques in support of other projects within the practice. He worked as Project Architect & Project Senior Associate on the competitions for the new airport terminal in Mexico City and the Beijing New Airport, as well as the Al Wakrah Football Stadium in Qatar. Currently, he is working on the concept design of two projects in New York, a residential development on a technically-challenging site, and a mixed-use development on Fifth Avenue.
