Paulo Flores Director B.Arch, M.Arch, DGP-SEP(Mexico)
Profile Joining the office in 2007, with experience from practices in Italy and Mexico, Paulo is currently a Director at Zaha Hadid Architects, leading the firm’s Front-End Design Research Team (Z Cluster). The Z Cluster group is a large design team within the practice responsible for design exploration on new projects, with focus on expanding and developing ZHA’s creative approach and repertoire to the early conceptual stages of project development. The Z Cluster carries ZHA’s design DNA and is always involved in all new projects where ideas are continuously tested, questioned and evolved to provide unique solutions to reflect client’s requirements.
Education & Teaching Paulo received his bachelor’s degree in architecture from the Ibero-American University in Mexico City in 2003, including one year studying computational design with the University of Miami. He then gained his master’s degree in parametric and digital design from the Design Research Lab at the Architectural Association in London in 2007. Since 2011, Paulo has lectured extensively in Latin America, Europe and China and is a regular invited Critic for the Architectural Association and a wide range of universities and architectural programs world-wide.
Project Experience Overview Paulo works on a wide range of projects and has been key in multiple successful competitions for the practice, working closely with project design teams during the development of concept ideas and undertaking detailed research into different typologies with an innovative design approach in support of other projects within the practice.
Paulo’s extensive experience as Project Design Director includes the recently completed New Beijing Daxing International Airport and the Navi Mumbai Airport in India.
Paulo acted as Project Associate in the early concept stages for the recently completed Al Wakrah Football Stadium in Qatar; and recently as Project Design Director for the winning competition entry for Western Sydney Airport in Australia and the new Exhibition Centre in Beijing, China. Currently, Paulo is working as one of the two Project Directors for the Shenzhen Science & Technology Museum under construction and the ambitious 400m Tower C at the Bay Super Headquarters Base in Shenzhen, China.
