Zaha Hadid Architects participates in ‘Design Explorer’ programme in Hong Kong

This week Kelvin Ma, Designer at Zaha Hadid Architects’, visited students at the Jockey Club Innovation Tower (JCIT) at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to speak about Zaha Hadid Architects’ work as part of the ‘Design Explorer’ programme.

Debuted in 2018 by the Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC), Business Of Design Week (BODW) City Programme (CityProg) is a citywide creative business and community activation programme, covering design driven happenings from Nov to Dec around the city. ‘Design Explorer’, a pilot school programme, is introduced under the umbrella of BODW CityProg, aiming to bring local tweens and early teens to explore their interest in design and the prospect to take part in the design industry as their future career goal. Emphasizing on career discovery and planning, ‘Design Explorer’ comprises a series of design workshops, design school and studio visits.

Jockey Club Innovation Tower (JCIT) at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University by Zaha Hadid Architects’ is home to the university's School of Design. The 15 storey tower accommodates more than 1,800 students and staff, with design studios, labs and workshops, exhibition areas, multi-functional classrooms, lecture theatre and community lounges.

The tower’s interiors create informal spaces to meet and interact, complementing the large exhibition forums, studios, theatre and recreational facilities. Its design promotes a multidisciplinary collaboration by connecting the variety of programs within the School of Design, encouraging interaction between the many different learning clusters and design disciplines; establishing a collective research culture where many contributions and innovations can learn from each other.
