MAXII: National Museum of XXI Century Arts

Rome, Italy

Almost 75,000 have visited the museum since it opened to the public on 30 May, 2010

MAXXI: National Museum of XXI Century Arts is the first museum in Italy dedicated to contemporary creativity; a multidisciplinary space for experimentation and innovation in arts and architecture. Based the concept of an urban campus, the MAXXI should not be considered just one building – but several. The design moves away from the idea of ‘the museum as an object’ and towards the idea of a ‘field of buildings’. It is not just a museum, but a cultural centre where a dense texture of interior and exterior spaces have been intertwined and superimposed over one another.

The MAXXI’s inaugural exhibitions:
GINO DE DOMINICIS: l’Immortale
LUIGI MORETTI ARCHITETTO: From Rationalism to Informalism
KUTLAG ATAMAN: Mesopotamian Dramaturgies
SPACE: including Italian Geographies by Studio Azzurro; NETinSPACE; and a tribute to Fabio Mauri
MAXXI 2per100: Two new works created by Maurizio Mochetti and Massimo Grimaldi
