Capital Hill Residence exhibited at MAXXI

Capital Hill Residence (photography & film) presented within the ‘At Home – Projects for Contemporary Housing’ exhibition at MAXXI, Museum of XXI Century Arts in Rome. The evolution of the concept of inhabitation has been evolving since the Second World War. This exhibition explores the overlapping paths and scales of the act of inhabiting, from the individual to the collective, with specific reference to the more complex and hybrid experiences that demonstrate these new relationships between individuals and communities in a dialogue between the works of 20th Century and new emerging figures of international architecture “I asked Zaha to build my private residence outside Moscow. I told her ‘I want to wake up in the morning and just see blue sky.’ She said, ‘You realise you have to be above the trees?’” explains the client. The Financial Times wrote “The Capital Hill Residence is, in a way, a celebration of early visionary modernism, from expressionism through constructivism and the visual dematerialisation of architecture, making it appear as something fast-moving and organic, rather than fixed and static... It has Zaha’s signature features of organic intricacy, complexity, of spatial arrangements, a lot of surprises, a lot of craftiness and beauty in the honing of the shape and forms. But even more than that, it is, in the words of both architect and client, a ‘dream house’ — as much fantasy as reality, an idea of architecture that still seems somehow impossible.” ‘At Home – Projects for Contemporary Housing’ 17 April 2019 – 22 March 2020 MAXXI, Museum of XXI Century Arts Via Guido Reni 4A, Rome MAXXI, Museum of XXI Century Arts
