Dialogues: an exhibition of Helene Binet’s photography opens 20 August at Forum Schlossplatz, Switzerland

For 25 years, Binet has interpreted the work of architects including Zaha Hadid; capturing structure, material and shape with her analogue photography’s precise handling of light and shadow.

“You have to grasp what is the soul of the building in a few elements. That has allowed me to develop these eyes where I am not capturing huge, glorious photographs, but instead the essential moments of the space that can evoke the rest,” Binet explained to the New York Times. “It has been incredible for me to follow Zaha’s career and learn my field of photography through her buildings.”

This exhibition juxtaposes photographs of different buildings against each other and are contrasted with landscape photography. With projects by Zaha Hadid, Le Corbusier, Peter Zumthor and Daniel Libeskind the exhibition invites visitors to discover their architecture through the work of a visual poet.

“Binet’s architectural photography stands out for its reserve, its simplicity and an ineffable quality that comes from shooting on film,” said the New York Times.

Since 1994 the Forum Schlossplatz is a place of reflection and debate. Its aim is to encourage the public to deal with cultural and social questions and through its exhibitions and events the Forum pursues an interdisciplinary and participatory approach.
