ZHA relocates head office to our 101 Goswell Road site in London

Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) is built on our deep commitment to a collective research culture that enables multi-disciplinary teams from around the world to work collaboratively.

Following government guidelines in March 2020, ZHA transitioned to working from home and has ensured continuity in every aspect of our work; migrating work and training online to support the wellbeing and development of everyone in the practice.

Throughout a period of record growth for the business, we are now offering our teams more options in how they work, maintaining the primary role of our studio as a place for meaningful collaboration and interaction.

Establishing work environments that promote individual and overall wellness, as well as adapting to a post-Covid future that requires new ways of working, we have reviewed our needs for space, layouts, fit-outs, systems and operations.

ZHA has occupied the seven floors of 101 Goswell Road in Clerkenwell, London since 2012. A former garment factory with large floorplates, we are reconfiguring these spaces to create flexible work environments that are healthier and more supportive. We are also tripling the formal and social meeting spaces, as well as building a creative lab on the lower floors that includes dedicated spaces for design research, digital fabrication and exhibitions. Connected to 101 Goswell Road by a communal courtyard, ZHA’s new studios within Compton Courtyard will enable all our staff in London to work together.

The classroom layout of the Grade II listed Bowling Green Lane School has restricted adaptation to these new work requirements. Opened in 1875, the school was converted to commercial use in 1982. Zaha Hadid Architects first leased a former classroom in 1983, eventually occupying the whole building as the practice grew.

As we evolve our ways of working and transform our Goswell Road building with its adjacent Compton Courtyard studio into our new workspace, we no longer require the Bowling Green Lane School. We hope the old schoolhouse will continue as a home to the next generation of innovative young designers and start-ups.
