CityLife Shopping District finalist in the 2018 Surface Travel Awards

The CityLife Shopping District has been named finalist in the 2018 Surface Travel Awards.

The Surface Travel Awards is an annual tribute to the world’s best, most thoughtfully conceived spaces and products, including hotels, restaurants, airports, and luggage. Celebrating the intersection of travel and design, the Surface Travel Awards recognize and honor architects, designers, and other innovators who inspire, empower, and connect us as we traverse the world. The program aims to raise global awareness of the crucial benefit of design as a means to improve our lives.

Located above Tre Torri station on line M5 of Milan’s Metro network, CityLife Shopping District integrates a new public park with indoor and outdoor piazzas, food hall, restaurants, cafes, shops and cinema as well as facilities for health and wellbeing.

The 32,000m² shopping district will welcome seven million visitors each year when the CityLife redevelopment fully completes in 2020. One of Europe’s largest redevelopment projects, CityLife will include 1,000 new homes, offices for almost 10,000 staff, the new 42-acre park, piazzas and a kindergarten.

Bamboo flooring, ceiling and columns welcome visitors to the shopping district’s interior. Selected for its warmth and tactility, engineered bamboo is extremely durable and can be procured in a large quantity from sustainable sources.

Opening Milan’s old trade fair grounds to year-round civic use by integrating the new public park with Milan’s most extensive pedestrian zone, CityLife has created the largest new public space in the city in more than 120 years.
