The London Aquatics Centre wins RIBA National Award

The London Aquatics centre by Zaha Hadid Architects has won a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) National Award.

The RIBA Award citation said:

This world-class building with a distinctive curvaceous form was a fitting backdrop for the 2012 Olympic Games. It was designed as both an Olympic venue and, in legacy, as a public swimming pool; and has proved successful in both scenarios. There were exceptionally complex site constraints, which were resolved with deceptive ease. Its pure and powerful form is conceptually flawless and it will be a favorite venue for Londoners for generations to come.

The building opened to the public earlier this year offering swimming and diving lessons to all ages and abilities, as well as a variety of fitness and family sessions,  water polo, synchronised swimming, diving, triathlon, sub aqua, gym and dry diving facilities.
