London Aquatics Centre awarded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) / International Association of Sports & Leisure Facilities (IKAS)

Following its nomination for the 2014 RIBA Stirling Prize, the London Aquatics Centre was awarded a Silver Medal by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Association of Sports & Leisure Facilities (IKAS). An outstanding legacy of London 2012, almost 1.5 million Londoners have now visited the Aquatics Centre since it opened to the public in 2014.

The IOC/IAKS Award are the most important international architecture prizes for sports, leisure and recreational facilities and have been awarded biennially since 1987.  Prizes are awarded for exemplarily well designed, as well as functionally accomplished, sports and leisure facilities.

This year’s IOC/IAKS Awards received entries from 130 projects in 30 countries.
