Liquid Glacial table raises US$570,000 in (RED) charity auction

Liquid Glacial table has raised US$570,000 in the (RED) auction to support HIV/AIDS programmes and the Rebuild Foundation.

Zaha Hadid Design with David Gill Gallery created a unique Liquid Glacial Table in red for the (RED) Auction 2018 curated by Bono, David Adjaye and Theaster Gates.

Collectors at this year’s Sothebys auction in Miami’s Moore Building bid US$5.5 million on works by more than 30 acclaimed artists and designers including Ai Wei Wei, Jeff Koons, Frank Gehry, Marc Quinn, Jenny Saville, Theaster Gates and David Adjaye.

The evening's total fundraising increased to US$10.5 million thanks to the Gates Foundation matching the bids.

All proceeds from the auction will support community-based HIV and AIDS programmes in Africa (Global Fund to Fight Aids) and also community programmes in Chicago run by the Rebuild Foundation established by Theaster Gates.

Nominated by London’s Design Museum as one of the Designs of the Year, the Liquid Glacial table comprises gentle waves and ripples beneath the flat surface of its table-top, while its legs pour from the horizontal in an apparent vortex of water that seems frozen in time. The transparent acrylic amplifies this perception, adding depth and complexity through infinite refractions.
