Jockey Club Innovation Tower 5 year anniversary

Jockey Club Innovation Tower at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University opened five years ago this week to house the university's school of design.

Awarded the RIBA Prize for International Excellence, the 15 storey, 15,000 sq.m Innovation Tower accommodates more than 1,800 students and staff in design studios, labs and workshops, exhibition areas, classrooms, lecture theatre and community lounges.

Located on a narrow, irregular site at the northern edge of the university bordered by the university’s football ground and a motorway, the tower is connected to the heart of the campus; encouraging the university’s faculties to develop multidisciplinary initiatives and engagement with the community, government, industry, NGO’s and academia.

The tower’s interior and exterior courtyards create informal spaces to meet and interact. Its design promotes communication between the school’s many learning clusters and design disciplines; establishing a collective research culture where many different contributors can learn from each other.
