Jockey Club Innovation Tower, School of Design at Hong Kong Polytechnic University shortlisted for the RIBA International Awards 2016

Awarded to the most significant and inspirational building of the year, the prize is given to a project demonstrating visionary, innovative thinking and excellence of execution, whilst making a distinct contribution to its users and to its physical context.

Located on a narrow, irregular site bordered by the university’s sports field and a highway interchange, the 15-storey tower’s interior and exterior courtyards create informal spaces for the school of design’s 1800 students and staff to meet, establishing a collective research culture where students of the school’s many design disciplines can interact and learn from each other. The tower was a finalist of the 2014 Best Tall Buildings Awards by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, Chicago.

The Heydar Aliyev Centre, Baku by Zaha Hadid Architects is also included in the RIBA International Awards 2016 shortlist
