The Dalmore 49 Year Old Luminary No.2, “The Rare” sells for $95,277 in aid of V&A Dundee

The Dalmore 49 Year Old Luminary No.2, “The Rare” sold for $95,277 at its Sotheby’s auction with proceeds from the sale donated to the V&A Dundee museum.

Transforming Zaha Hadid Architects’ signature architectural language, director Melodie Leung and the 185-year-old distiller The Dalmore collaborated on “The Rare”: a 49-year-old Single Malt housed in a bespoke glass sculpture crafted by master glass blower Fiaz Elson.

“The Rare’s design evokes the image of a full-bodied dram of whisky swirled in a glass of fine crystal, taking the material to the limits of what is possible,” explains Leung. “The piece cured inside the kiln for 12 weeks at Elson’s workshop The Glass Foundry, then was hand polished for over 500 hours before its debut at V&A Dundee.
